But we don't, so we have to work around it.

If you're looking for some Bible tidbits to fit the theory, think of the temptation of Jesus before he began ministry. Now, I could be trying to overcontextualise things, but what the heck.

Jesus went through a stage of intense temptation by Satan.
This was important for his growth and maturity.
A lot of the temptation was based upon his identity as God's son.

The comparison meets a slight glitch when you realise he was not in community during this period. Maybe instead of running youth ministry, we should send all the teens out into the desert ;-)kathhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01909632924695409997noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22478825.post-22444721806443675152007-10-05T16:21:00.000+10:002007-10-05T16:21:00.000+10:00i agree, however there is also something to be sai...i agree, however there is also something to be said for being culturally relevant! I'm not saying you aren't or the bible isn't. But we do need to contextualise our message. I think Christians are bad at that generally speaking.

I think it also means that we can encourage our youth to take on more ownership of their faith and ministry to help them have a shorter period of adolescence. Maybe once a person has discovered who they are in Jesus, who God has made them to be, we should then expect a more adult and mature outlook on life???Chrishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06266685143006297057noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22478825.post-27401099684540161622007-10-05T15:51:00.000+10:002007-10-05T15:51:00.000+10:00I suspect even the best Bible computerised concord...I suspect even the best Bible computerised concordance would struggle to find the word adolescence too (or the concept of it!) As we know, the whole teenager idea is a very recent phenomena; coined by the marketers and extended by the gap between puberty [the biology] and adulthood/marriage/whatever is required [the culture]. There is a lot to be said for the Bar/Bat Mitzvah where the line is more clearly drawn I reckon.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
