This made me feel good...

An article on another blog called: Top 50 Blogs by Youth Ministers

I may or may not have made the list

Sorry for a lack of posts in the last few weeks.  I got married and have been on a much needed break in the days leading up to the wedding and then an amazing, best holiday of my life, 11 day honeymoon on the Sunshine Coast (QLD) with my beautiful wife Ellisa.

When I get some photos I will most definitely post some.

When I've dealt with all my emails and things that have built up over the last few weeks, I will begin more consistent and regular blogging again.

Ps. You should get married, it is awesome!

It's up and it's going.  My redesign is finished

What do you think?

Any feedback or broken links or things you can't read anymore?

I'll try my best to fix all that over the coming weeks and months.

The only thing I can't get to work is the image in the header.  So currently that's blank... which is annoying, but it seems to be beyond my technical ability to fix it.  If you think you can, let me know!

Also, thanks must go to these guys who did the design and let people use it for free.

I hope that this increases the readability and usability of the site.

Feedback most welcome

I've been working on this for a while now.

I'm about to make the change over to a new template.

I'll let you know when it's done.  Hopefully I don't stuff anything up!

Hey everyone!

Just to let you know, I've got the Holy Trinity Youth Camp coming up this weekend, and then a couple of weeks later I'm off to Port Hedland on mission, as well as that I'm also planning term 4 and managing some transitions of youth into our young adult community and some sunday school kids coming up into the youth ministry. I've also got recruiting, planning and training up youth leaders for next year all happening in the next little while as well. I feel busy.

I'll probably get busy and blog a little less. However, I hope to have a few days of serious blogging in there somewhere so that I'll have a new post coming out about once a day again soon.

Cheers

Chris

Hey everyone

Very sorry I haven't posted anything for a while. I have a test coming up on Monday on Greek (the language the New Testament of the Bible was originally written in) and I had fallen behind the class so I've been doing nothing but essential tasks and learning Greek for the last week or so.

I'll endeavor to be back on deck and blogging more soon.

Thanks

Chris

Hey guys!

My blog update was cool for about a day, then the person who made the templates photobucket account failed so my blog looked like crap.

I will be reverting to the old template (disorganised for now) until I have time to fix it all back up again!

Sorry!

Hey everyone, just a quick note to say that I'm in the process of giving this blog a major face lift. So if there are broken links or something doesn't work properly or looks funny, please let me know and I'll do my best to fix it!

Thanks!

Very sorry about the lack of posts lately. After returning from a holiday I then had about 5 days to get ready for the start of the 2009 school year. This was because I then started doing a Greek Intensive. I'm doing one semesters worth of Greek in three weeks. It's hardcore and I'm doing almost nothing but Greek every day.

During this I've also moved house. I felt pretty proud of myself as I did this on Sat 7th Feb which was the hottest day Melbourne has ever had. My excitement has been somewhat tempered since then as that was also the day of the worst bushfires Australia has ever had (the death toll is close to 200 and may rise to 300 or more). The fires affected some suburbs about 40mins away from where I live. I have friends who know people who have died, and there are a number of people at my church who don't know where some members of their family who live in the affected areas are, or who have lost friends or family or property.

Please pray for all these people. See my friend and colleague's Jono's post on the fires for someones thoughts who has been personally affected by the fires.

I have wiped tears out of my eyes a number of times this week as I've listened to stories on the radio or tv and watched people in grief with no hope...

Just before I went away on Holidays I had a bit of a blogging disaster where something I said on my blog a month ago came back to bite me.  The problem has been resolved and the mis-understanding sorted out, but it left me with zero motivation and a big question about why I was doing ministry at all.  It all blew up the day before I went on Holidays and thankfully I managed to get it sorted before I went away.  My holiday was a great time to get away with family and friends back in my home state and forget about the rather ridiculous situation I had just sorted out and avoided back here in Melbourne.  Anyhow, all this led me to think I need to say why I blog.
  1. I blog to try and work out what I'm thinking!  Often a blog is a random collection of my first thoguhts on an issue (like this one as to Why I Blog!)
  2. I blog to engage with ideas.  If I don't put what I'm thinking out there, then I'll never know if what i'm thinking is right or wrong.  So sometimes I say things that might seem offensive or controversial because I want to engage people in discussion and debate.  I love learning, and I love being told that I'm wrong and why.  So please engage with me!
  3. I blog to help other people.  The reason I put my sermons or youth talks or studies up, or things that I find interesting/useful on my blog is to help people find resources that they might find useful in their own ministry.
  4. Primarily however I blog for me.  I blog to get things out of my mind so I can keep it fresh and focussed on what I need to do at work or in my personal life.  I blog to get my thoughts ordered, I blog so I can remember where to find good or interesting resources and I blog because I enjoy it, and it's a bit of a hobby of mine. I enjoy the networking that happens and the engaging with ideas that happens.
So thanks to everyone who reads my blog.  Despite my discouragement a few weeks ago that i mentioned at the start of this blog, I am going to keep on blogging.  I am going to keep on trying to work out what I think.  I'm going to keep on saying what I think and I'm going to keep being happy to be corrected with well reasoned good biblical interpretation!  Maybe there are people looking to catch me out if I say something they don't like, but I won't be scared off calling things as I see them.

So engage me, rebuff me, rebuke me, encourage me and enjoy the dynamic interaction with ideas that blogging is!

Apologies to everyone out there who might have noticed my blog went down over the last few days.

I'm currently trying to switch my blog over to the domain name www.youthministryandme.com

This however is proving to be more difficult than I thought and I've experienced many problems. This is where my lack of being a computer nerd really comes to the fore.

If you are really nerdy with computer type stuff let me know, maybe you can help!

Hey everyone.

I have now put a blog roll (live feeds from some of my friends blogs) on the right hand side of this blog. It's a pretty cool new feature that has been added to blogspot.

I've also put a list of the most recent sermons from HTD, John Piper and Mark Driscoll, which are all worth listening to sometime.

Hope you're all having a lovely day!

I'm using a new template for my blog as of today.

I haven't liked the dots one I've been using ever since the beginning for a while now.

See how long I stay with this one... Is it better?

I've just been through the last year or so of posts on my blog and labelled them all.

I didn't do it in a very systematic way... but oh well, hopefully it makes my blog more readable and user friendly... not that it has that many users or readers!!

Anyway somewhere on the left of this blog down below all my pictures and things are all the labels.

Happy reading!
