Why I Twitter

Crazy I know, but I don’t actually think Twitter is a waste of time or stupid. Rather I think it’s a powerful tool for ministry and for connecting, networking and just knowing what’s going on in the world [...]

Youth Ministry Resources

Being a Youth Minister on the ground in a local church means from time to time I write my own studies or think up a really cool game. When I do I post them on this page. So if you need some inspiration or an resource, this is for you [...]

Youth Ministry Dating Resource

You can’t hang around teenagers for long without realising that having a boyfriend or girlfriend or not having one is a big deal. So how do we respond as youth workers? I’ve collected my extensive notes and a link to my talk on the topic of dating here [...]

My Abortion response

I wrote this post in late 2008 when the Victorian Parliament was debating our current abortion laws. I thought I would feature this post in order to keep the topic on the agenda (and because it took me ages to write…) [...]

Can someone tell me what the Freudian slip here is?

Posted by Chris Bowditch Monday, February 22, 2010 8 comments: ADD COMMENTS

I read this in Tasmania's fine newspaper today:
State Infrastructure Minister Graeme Sturges made an embarrassing Freudian slip when asked whether it was just a coincidence that construction was starting in the middle of an election campaign.
"No, absolutely not," Mr Sturges said.
Now, I'm prepared to look stupid here, because I have no idea how this is a Freudian slip... he said no to a question...

Procrastinators clock

Posted by Chris Bowditch Sunday, September 27, 2009 0 comments: ADD COMMENTS

So this post gives a link to two clock applications for your computer that will randomly be set up to 15mins fast, but you will never know just how fast they are, meaning you will hopefully not procrastinate.

The second one Alltock looks most interesting. It covers your clock down on the taskbar and shows the up-to-15min faster one instead. Only thing is we have to wait for the windos version.... STOP PROCRASTINATING PEOPLE AND RELEASE IT!

Is Jesus your facebook friend?

Saw this church sign over on the Australian Pastors blog. This is one of the better church signs I've seen. And let me tell you, around this Doncaster area, and a little further south in Burwood, there are some pretty terrible church signs. I.e they say things like, "Human: Show us a sign You exist, God: Here it is!"... No comment needed.

The Snuggie... What the...?

WARNING THESE VIDEOS CONTAIN A SORT OF BEEPED OUT SWEAR WORD BEGINNING WITH F, BUT THEY ARE VERY FUNNY!

This is the sequel, which isn't as good, but still funny and is here mainly for the sake of completeness

And this is a seal we dressed in one of those blankets on our recent CRAVE camp:

The 'media-gate' affair

Posted by Chris Bowditch Monday, July 06, 2009 0 comments: ADD COMMENTS

My brother posts an open letter here to the media on an issue that has bugged me about the Australian Press (is it more universal??) calling any controversy, the 'x-gate' affair.

Perhaps this lack of creativity and understanding by all Australian media should be labeled the 'media-gate' affair?

Getting our priorities right

Saw this post on Australian Pastors blog. Got me thinking about how easy it is to get our priorities wrong!

Isn’t it strange how a 20 dollar bill seems like such a large amount when you donate it to church, but such a small amount when you go shopping? click here for the rest...

The National Anthem

You Spin me right round Jesus

Few things make me laugh out loud. This video did. He starts by asking them to take their shoes of like Moses did so nothing is separating them from the Holy Place of God (I thought Jesus did that?) and then South Park style replaces the word 'baby' for 'Jesus' in a medley of secular songs. A must watch!!

Melbourne Probe!?

Posted by Chris Bowditch Wednesday, May 27, 2009 0 comments: ADD COMMENTS

At Ridley the other day, I was leaving the dinning room when I came across a brochure that I just had to pick up! Here is a picture of the two big words on the front of the brochure that caught my attention!

Hello there! I thought to myself. This isn't the kind of brochure I'm expecting to see at a Theological college! So I picked it up and started to read and I quote:

"Probe was a good way of refining my focus"
"I think the Probe is a fantastic way of introducing people to the work of Wycliffe."
"Yes! I want to come to the Melbourne Probe!"

It's fair to say I was giggling on the inside as I read this, and to make sure I wasn't the only one who thought Melbourne Probe sounded like something a lot different to a bible translation course I showed it to some friends. There was much giggling.

For the record, The Melbourne Probe is a short bible translation conference/course run by Wycliffe. Not something, that like riding a bike, will give you a sore bum... This is either a piece of marketing brilliance as I would not have looked at this brochure and read through it with such interest but for the name, or a little bit of naivety, or an example of my need for God to keep working on me!

I don't think this is true at all, and certainly isn't the case with my lovely fiancee, but I thought this picture was funny!

Ok so it may be because I have the mind of a 14 year old boy, but I think this movie about earthworms is hilarious!

WWJD?

Posted by Chris Bowditch Wednesday, February 25, 2009 2 comments: ADD COMMENTS

Spotted this as I was driving along in traffic the other day...

In case you can't see it in this photo, here is a zoomed in version...

So this is either William Wilfred James Dowling (aka these are his initials) or a rich adult taking the WWJD (What Would Jesus Do) wrist band wearing phenomena to the next level. Either way I thought it was more funny than effective. But props to this guy for trying to get the word out there!

In the News...

Posted by Chris Bowditch Friday, June 20, 2008 1 comments: ADD COMMENTS

I was reading the news on the internet today and stumbled across three rather interesting stories. (If you're offended by swear words, first of all I think you've probably lived in a Christian buble too long because I don't think I've met anyone who isn't a Christian who wouldn't litter almost every 3rd or 4th sentence with at least one swear word, anyway apologies, I've quoted some people and they swore.)

Back to the news... The first story I read, was about some of the small problems facing Barrak Obama as he starts campaigning to become the first intelligent President the USA has seen in 8 years! Anyway, some crazy idiot is claiming to have had a homosexual encounter with him about 15 years ago. This crazy idiot called a press conference and his lawyer came with him. His lawyer was wearing a kilt... When one of the journalists present asked him why he was wearing a kilt the lawyer replied...

"It has to do with genitalia. If you are on the smaller side, then pants are not uncomfortable."
Classic! Read the story here.

Secondly, a bunch of school girls in the US made a pact to get pregnant and raise their kids together. Imagine being the Youth Minister in that city! Read the story here.

Finally, Gordon Ramsey (the celbritiy chef who fixes bad resturants and makes quite interesting tv) is in Australia just as at the same time as some are asking for a senate inquiry into coarse language on TV. If you haven't seen Ramsey's show then you wont know that he drops the F bomb every minuite or so. Anyhow, he was asked about what he thought abotu swearing and his show and he replied with this:

"I don't mean to swear, it's just the muppets I have to work with sometimes. We have a good day where things run to total perfection but throw a donkey in the mix and, yeah, you're in the shit.

"The minute you start running the kitchen like it's some form of limp dick society, trust me, get out.

"I want to run a proper kitchen with a pair of bollocks, not stand there and wish everybody a Merry Christmas and pat them on the back every time they do a good job.

"It's high pressure, high energy and, more importantly, real - that's how we keep it every day.''

You can read the original story here...

Buddhist Swans

Posted by Chris Bowditch Monday, June 16, 2008 2 comments: ADD COMMENTS

My beloved Swans (AFL team) are going all Buddhist on me.

I've known for a while now that one of the co-captains Brett Kirk was into his Buddhism and now it seems it's spreading through.

On the weekend they got a visit from the Dalai Lama.

Apparently Jude Bolton thought that listening to a two minute chant was enough to understand their "deep culture"...

"You see them chant and just appreciate that they have such a deep culture, it was amazing to even get that one- or two-minute insight into what they are about," Bolton said.
I'm not sure that listen to a chant means you get any insight into what Buddhists are on about Jude... but oh well... I'm also not sure that chanting = deep culture... but perhaps when compared to a culture of playing footy and drinking lots of beer I can understand where he's coming from in his assessment!

See more about the visit here

I'm using a new template for my blog as of today.

I haven't liked the dots one I've been using ever since the beginning for a while now.

See how long I stay with this one... Is it better?

I like big books and I cannot lie!

One Hit Wonder

Posted by Chris Bowditch Saturday, November 03, 2007 6 comments: ADD COMMENTS

No this has nothing to do with music as i originally thought.

The idea behind this project is that if only 1% of all internet users throughout the world donates just one dollar then something like 7.5 million bucks can be raised to help the poor and needy in the world. That's a pretty cool idea i think. Once you donate, you become a one hit wonder. Which is funny. (this is good marketing i think :p )

Anyway, join me and become a one hit wonder!
