ReplyDeleteWell it is called the 'Wine Barrel' Family Church. Absolutely shocking.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe he plagiarized my sermon on leprechauns from 2002! Seriously, you can listen here: www.whatawanker.org.au
ReplyDeleteAs far as I can tell it is. I tried to hunt down the church on Google, but their domain name had expired...
ReplyDeleteIt's amazing what you can stumble across when you should be honing your Greek skills and preparing for a John's Gospel exam!

ReplyDeleteGuys i think he has Tourette syndrome. Dont think he can help it and least the guy is trying.
ReplyDeleteAt least wikipedia it before you mock it :)
Hey Anonymous can you provide a link? I couldn't find anything about him or the church on Wikipedia when I underwent a short search then.
ReplyDeleteAlso, his biography, which I've now linked to in the post says nothing of his Tourettes. It does say,
"Matt has been intoxicated on the Father's love since 1998, and at times is not able to function well in the physical realm due to the glory that rests on his life. He is a God pleaser and is about his Fathers business..... drinking in the bridal wine of Heaven..."
I don't want to have a go at someone with a illness like that, but if you've got it, and you're in Christian ministry then I think an attitude of I battle on through my sufferings, or God choses the weak to shame the strong kinda ministry motiff is more correct than, I'm so drunk on Jesus that I can't control myself...
The wikipedia article on Tourettes doesn't describe this guy. It could be some other disorder, but people with Tourettes don't behave this way, Tourettes (and other related disorders) often have repetitive and recognisable 'Tics', particular to each person, which may be something like blinking, or throat clearing, or specific movements. Although this guy does repeat himself, his actions aren't manifest in the way tourettes actions are. These actions and manner of speaking don't appear to be out of repetition or compulsion, but more lack of control of his faculties.
