I read an article on this blog which reported on a study that was done into how youth and young adults (16-24) prefer to be contacted.
Here is the list:
1. Text messaging
2. Internet (i.e. MySpace or Facebook)
3. iPods and Podcasts
4. Instant messaging
5. Cell phone
6. DVD / CD
7. Books
8. Email
It makes me atypical because I love EMAIL and I'm 23! What's more convenient than an email?
I'd like to also know what the question that was asked in this study was... It seems slightly strange that 'Books' or 'DVD/CD' have made the list above a simple email...? If I want to ask you to plan something at youth group surely you'd prefer an email than a 1 page book? Maybe you could hold off all communication in your ministry and once a year release a book titled "All the things I should have talked to you about this year".
This study also shows me that I need to get a better phone that makes sending Text Messages easier. As well as getting a text messaging system set up for HTD. If you know of a good computer based text messaging service, that has cheap prices, leave a comment! :)

I've been looking into computer based texting options recently here for the same reasons! None of my students check their emails but thank God their parents do! I doubt texting will ever replace emails on a professional level but for the sake of just communicating it is the way to go.
ReplyDeleteHey Chris
ReplyDeleteA quick, cheap and easy way is to look for software that'll let your computer use your current mobile to do it for you.
You type messages on your comouter and then, using either Bluetooth or USB, you use your phone for the transmission.
Main advantage is that you can take it with you and that you can maintain one address book on your computer for everything.
Hey dude, we use messagenet. You probably knew that though:p not sure hoe pricey it is, but works a charm!
