Here is an interesting article about how UK community pools are having special Muslim only sessions where people are required to dress in a certain way.
Raises an interesting question, how do you integrate a group of people who don't want to integrate but rather want to change the whole society and force people to do things their way... glad I'm not trying to figure out the social policy on that one!

a point to consider is that we disciples of Jesus are also asked to be in the world but not of...meaning not to "intergate"...wasn't that what the Israelites were told when they entered the promised land too?? who compromised? today who is it that "conforms to the pattern of this world..." instead of living by the different set of value we are asked to live by?
ReplyDeleteWe Christ-followers could learn a lesson or two from the singlemindedness of these people..
Further, on the other hand, are not those of us, who do not share these values trying to force THEM to do things OUR WAY?
just may be worth pondering on that!
@Anonymous - I always think it's good to leave your name with comments.
ReplyDeleteI agree that we could learn something about being uncompromising on some things (to take swimming for example, why is it that many young Christian women seem to forget what the bible says about modesty when they put on a two piece bikini to go swimming at the beach in?)
However, there is a difference between being in the world and swimming wearing modest clothing while others around you wear something less modest and setting an example with what you wear. That's very different to demanding that people operate on our terms or don't get to swim.
I think this is a key difference between the two religions. If you don't have Jesus there is no point dressing modestly, you're still stuffed. So Christians are to set an example of what it means to follow Jesus and then tell others about Him. Not demand conformity to religious rules.
Islam on the other hand seems to be more focused on doing stuff to win favour from God. Which if he is as holy and beautiful as they claim seems impossible to me.
I thank God that it's all been done in Jesus.
